Topological
Narratives

Design through simulated geo-morphology.

An expression of identity by utilizing the topology of areas which hold important family history and memories.

By using open source satellite scans I exported the topology maps of the terrain in the area where my family has decades of history.

Cloth interaction with import of physical landscape demonstrating the compliance of the design with the surroundings, similar to the way rainfall moves with the terrain it lands on. I use this technique to create an architectural form to base the building off.

Form to
building.

Used the form generated to create an office building and placed basic details to demonstrate scale.

03Project

Rhythm
and hues.

Inspired by the work of Leigh Dovey and Leo Fender, this project has been a chance to test my workflow with complex shapes and textures in 3D.

Attempt at a procedural texture, I don't consider this Sunburst texture a success due to the over-complex nodes.

Using booleans to cut into the mesh for neat inlays, I've also used applied normal maps to the roughness to create subtle imperfections.

Painted
Polygons.

Toon & Texture

Making an alpha map to define transparent areas on a each plane that will make up the object.

Using watercolour paint as reference to develop imperfections for the 'hand- painted' style of the texture.

Referencing primary photos of English and Welsh Countryside for the colour and shape.

Nodes to create the 'watery' blotches that make up the texture, done through mixing voronoi textures.

07Application

Outcomes &
experiments.

Geometry nodes layout stacking instances in the volume of a mesh with a range of possible rotations to give the free-form style.

Use for sky texture.

Light of
Biomimicry.

I learned and experimented with a mountain of new materials and techniques which developed my understanding of model making.

Using an icosphere shape to imitate the central part of the dandelion, this is where the light does.

01About

Working the line between rendered image and built form.

I started in Blender, building product renders and textures. That's what led me into architecture, where I've worked on everything from laser-cut massing models to landscape-driven design.
